The role of digital tools including artificial intelligence (AI) is becoming increasingly prominent in the workplace. While digital is often associated with automation and efficiency, its impact on employee happiness is equally powerful.
Reduced mundane work. By leveraging digital tools, organizations can reduce the burden of monotonous tasks allowing employees to focus on the more enjoyable aspects of their work. Robotic Process Automation (RPA) can streamline manual and repetitive work. Conversational and generative AI can assist employees by taking on the initial grunt work, such as creating the first draft of a marketing pitch, extracting relevant information from lengthy policy handbooks, or writing software code. It can also brush up an almost final thought piece (like it did to this blog).
Higher impact. Technologies such as blockchain, image analytics, data analytics, virtual reality/augmented reality (VR/AR), Industry 4.0, and the metaverse can revolutionize key functions within an organization, including manufacturing, supply chain, sales and marketing, finance, HR, engineering, R&D, and field operations. Embracing these tools drives stronger impact, job satisfaction, and career progression, contributing to employee happiness.
World at one’s service. Digital tools reshape collaboration structures, providing access to knowledge and expertise anytime, anywhere. Crowdsourcing platforms enhance problem-solving and empower employees by fostering networks and diverse perspectives, increasing happiness.
Mental well-being. Advanced AI tools gauge emotions and stress levels, offering timely therapeutic interventions. AI acts as a virtual counsellor, providing guidance and support, promoting a healthier work environment and greater happiness.
Vibrant workplace. Digital and phygital interventions enhance aesthetics and engagement. Big digital walls, efficient check-in/out systems, and digital standees create a stimulating work environment, positively influencing happiness levels.
By leveraging digital tools to reduce mundane work, increase impact, enhance collaboration, support well-being, and create vibrant environments, organizations foster genuine happiness. Just like individuals need to be mindful of their social media usage in their personal lives, organizations must also take steps to protect their employees from excessive use of digital tools in the workplace. As long as they can do that, employees can look forward to a future where they can live happily, digitally ever after.
